Within the scope of its competences, the department primarily provides executive secretarial, assistant and administrative work for the President of the CAS, Vice Presidents of the CAS and other members of the CAS Academy Council, for the CAS Science Council and for relevant advisory bodies to the CAS Academy Council. The department also handles human resources scope of work and administration related to employment at the CAS and its institutes.

Within the scope of its competences, the department coordinates the agenda of grant administration - support of excellence and other instruments of targeted support for CAS Institutes. The department also handles and coordinates periodical evaluation of research and professional activities of CAS Institutes and the agenda related to cooperation between the CAS, universities and higher education institutions.

The department implements the Concept of international cooperation of the CAS, supports the integration of the CAS into the European Research Area and international research activities, manages CAS participation in the work of international scientific organisations and is responsible for inter-academic and inter-governmental agreements on scientific cooperation.
